Balincaguin Conservancy (BC) will hold its 2nd Cacupangan Cave Cleanup Campaign (CCCC) on 19 September 2009, which will concur with the 24th International Coastal Cleanup by the Ocean Conservancy. While other municipalities and cities will participate by cleaning their shoreline and since Mabini is landlocked without a shoreline, we will again target the underground stream in the Cacupangan Cave System in Brgy. Tagudin, Mabini, Pangasinan.
Last year, BC and the Rotary Club of Hundred Islands, Alaminos City, performed the 1st Cacupangan Cave Cleanup Campaign. The two identified graffiti hotspots we cleaned are still relatively clean but some graffiti have returned. We also were able to removed two sacks of litter left by the visitors of the cave.
This year BC will expand the CCCC by inviting other organizations to participate but will limit the number of participants because of the small carrying capacity of the cave. Some cleaning teams will go more than 1 kilometer, through the swim area, to new graffiti hotspots.
